Now that the weather is getting warmer and denim cut-offs, dresses, tank-tops, and skirts are making their first appearance of the season, I got to thinking about style and trends.  It’s really difficult for me to just go shopping now and buy things, because I’ve been trying to be more calculated about what type of style I’m conveying.  Like I’ve said before, my style is really simple, which makes me want to spend more money on less items that I’ll wear for years and years to come.  Like the leather jacket I bought a few weeks ago.  Nina Garcia’s Little Black Book of Style talks about wearing the things that you love, not following trends too closely, and looking to others for inspiration.

I started going through the archives of one of my favorite fashion blogs written by Swedish fashion blogger/model Elin Kling.  I just love how her style is incredibly simple, but still unique in the details of her outfits.  And she shops high and low.  You’ll find her wearing pieces by Alexander Wang and Acne and then she’ll add pieces from Mango, H&M, and Zara.  Everything she wears is perfectly tailored to her.  I’ve started a file on my desktop called “stye file” and I’m saving images in there where I like what the person is wearing and how their clothing fits on their body and even some color combinations and proportions that I find interesting.  Here’s some of my favorite looks from Elin Kling’s blog that I’m hoping to draw upon when I shop this spring.

Love how comfortable this baseball shirt looks.  Isabel Marant brought the jersey/baseball shirt look back with her spring 2012 collection, which makes it a bit of trend, but everything else in Elin’s outfit is totally classic and understated.

Another athletic-looking t-shirt.

Love the simplicity of this blouse silk blouse and loose-fitting jeans, but then she adds a great statement belt.

Another silky blouse with a simple pair of skinnies.  I’m pretty sure this blouse is from Zara.

Imperfect hair and slouchy black t-shirt.

Black t-shirt and jeans.

Love her white t-shirt and ankle boots.

Another great white shirt, jeans, boots, and bag.

White silky blouse.

ANOTHER white tank and jeans (sensing a trend in what I like here?)

I’m obsessed with this entire outfit.  It’s like Audrey Hepburn meets modern-day biker chick.  And look at that leather jacket.  Perfection.

Here’s another trendy item she wore, pajama-inspired pants.  She paired them with a simple tank and sandals.

I don’t really like shorts, but I like how these ones look.  Really comfortable and not too short.  And you can see how she re-wears things all the time (I know, what a concept, right?) like the leather jacket she has in her hand.

Striped sweater.  And the same black bag she’s been carrying in other pictures.

A pop of color with the pants.

Another laid-back look.
