Who knew such a small article of clothing could be such a difficult thing to get right?  I’m talking about shorts, people!!!  Many women dread wearing them…but they don’t need to!  Here are some easy steps to master the perfect pair of shorts:

(1)  Think about fit.  We all like to wear a cute pair of cut-offs, but anything so short that you can’t sit while wearing them should be probably be eliminated from your wardrobe.  No super-tight shorts or huge parachute shorts.  A pair of shorts that fit perfectly have the same affect as a well tailored blazer.  Perfection.

(2)  It’s all about proportion.  If you are going to wear a pair of short denim cut-offs, you probably don’t want to throw on your favorite cropped top.  If the shorts are on the shorter side, consider adding a piece that contrasts this fit.  Maybe add a boyfriend style button-up or a feminine silk blouse.   If the shorts have more volume, maybe pair those with a tight-fitting black tank and a great necklace.  Very understated!

(3)  Don’t limit yourself with trends.  This is true with all articles of clothing.  Sometimes, a trend is just not going to work for you, so commit to dress for yourself and for your body type.

Here are some pictures of some lovely ladies rocking their shorts in the right way.

I ordered number 1, 4 and 5. :)  Happy Saturday!  Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

I’m happy to report that my denim and denim (aka, the Canadian tuxedo) obsession is alive and well!  My denim shirt collection grows monthly and I’ve recently acquired the iconic J. Crew denim jacket.  A co-worker recently asked what my favorite color is.  My answer?  Denim.

Hello everyone!  One of my favorite fashion bloggers/illustrators, Garance Doré, has started a series of videos documenting her life in the fashion world.  I love her quirkiness and general French ease.  Here’s a video that she shot during Paris Fashion Week.

I know it might seem lame to re-post a video, but I really find these short documentaries about Scott Schuman (the man behind The Sartorialist) truly inspiring.  If you have six minutes, watch this video.

Also, don’t forget to check out Rowe boutique’s fashion blog Love Life Live Fashion.  I designed it and I’m the one posting :)

DENIM ON DENIM…that’s right, I said it.  I’m totally into wearing a full on Canadian tuxedo.  If I’m feeling really bold, I’ll add in my Frye boots.  This look is not for the timid.

It’s time for this week’s inspiration post.  I’ve been getting really excited for cooler weather and I bought a long black maxi dress from American Apparel that I’m going to layer with cropped tees and sweaters!  I’ve made a friend who has a nice camera and is willing to help me snap some outfit pics, so hopefully those will be up soon!

14-year-old intern at Marc Jacobs.  I most certainly was not cool enough to be an intern for Marc Jacobs when I was 14 (I’m probably not cool enough to be an intern at Marc Jacobs now!)  From The Sartorialist.

Obsessed with green pants.  Don’t be afraid to pair them with something colorful!  From Natalie Off Duty.

Fashion doesn’t always have to be so serious…it’s good to poke  a little fun at fashion every now and then by wearing something outlandish.  From Jak and Jil.

Time for this weeks inspiration post!

Love this military jacket worn by The Man Repeller.  I love the way she plays with proportions by pairing the denim cut-offs with the over-sized jacket.

Still a few weeks left in summer…so wear something airy and comfortable!  The Sartorialist.

Loving these images from Vogue Italia that The Sartorialist posted.  He made the point that if you want to start seeing fuller figured women in fashion magazines, then you should write to the editors asking for more editorials like this one.
